A tincture is a botanical extract, where plant material is steeped in a solvent, typically alcohol, to draw out the compounds that water alone will not dissolve. For chilcuague, this matters: the alkamides that give the root its character are not readily water-soluble, which is why a tincture captures the plant more completely than an infusion would.
Root, not leaf
In Heliopsis longipes, affinin is concentrated in the roots. The leaves and flowers contain other constituents but not the alkamide that defines the plant. A chilcuague tincture worth buying is made from root material, worth checking, since related species are sometimes sold using aerial parts.
Tincture versus spray
Tonalli's tincture is delivered in a 30ml spray bottle rather than a dropper. The practical difference is dose consistency: a dropper delivers a variable amount depending on how it is squeezed and held, while a spray delivers the same measure each time. It is also more portable, and does not require you to tip your head back over a pipette in public.
